Cat started out professional life in academia, completing a PhD and postdoctoral research in HIV and personalised medicine. Since moving into television, as a freelancer she's worked on several high-profile factual programs for BBC Two / Four, Channel 4, PBS and Netflix, producing and directing films for Wingspan including The Joy of Logic, nominated for several awards including Best Science Documentary award at the BANFF World Media Festival, in both the Best Science or Natural History and Best Newcomer categories at the Grierson Documentary Awards, and Winner of Best International Documentary at AFO50; Computer Says Show, nominated Best Original Programme at the Broadcast Awards; and The Joy of Winning, Winner of Best International Documentary at AFO54.
